Your shooting foot is going through the ball, it doesn't stop when the ball hits your foot. I don't actually recommend putting your chest over the ball because you tend to tend to be a little bit less accurate. Essentially, make sure you don't hit the ball with your toes or laces. Start practicing shots with the inside of your foot. make sure you line up your non shooting foot with the diecotirn you want the ball to go with your toes a little bit past the the ball.
