Football Coaching – Close Range Finishing

Percentage wise, more goals are scored from inside the penalty area, than outside. More goals, in free play are scored from within 8 – 10 yards of the goal. You would think it was pretty simple to hit an 8 yard goal from 8 yards. But it seems not, that is why goal scoring strikers are worth their weight in gold.

Shooting coaching sessions and games that recreate realistic match like situations and that also enable players to have lots of different close range shooting opportunities are crucial for the development and improvement of the players.

Shooting coaching sessions on close range finishing should be fun, enjoyable and lively. They should encourage players to be positive, composed, bright and alert and to use good close range finishing techniques.

Close Range Finishing – Football Coaching Tips

  • Football Coaching Tip 1 – Strikers to be quick with positive movement to find space in the penalty area and to react first to any loose balls. Strikers should look to receive the ball and set the ball out of their feet into a shooting position.
