Default U9 goal kicks

The goal kick must leave the penalty area and if it does not the kick must be retaken. You can take a goal kick from wherever you wisj in the penalty area at 7 a side.

I had a scenario in my sons Under 9's match at the weekend when my son got injured and had to be stretchered off with ligament damage, in this game we had no substitutes die to injury and holidays so we continued with our 6 men against their 7 men when we were awarded a goal kick by the referee, our right sided defender went to take the goal kick from the right hand side when i told him loud and clearly not to take the goal kick but to give the ball to our left sided defender to take the kick ( i did this because my son plays on the right hand side and due to his injury we were a little threadbare on the right hand side). Now our defender side footed it to our left sided defender to take the goal kick and proceded to walk out fo the goal area and to get into position, at this point the manager of the opposing team started screaming that we couldn't do that and it should be a free kick to them........ i couldn't believe it The referee the pointed towards the area and i thought he was just saying to take the goal kick from the left hand side as the ball hadn't left the area (nowhere near leaving the area in fact as he had rolled it across to him to take) but in fact he awarded the opposition a free kick on the edge of the are...........once again i was stunned and p'eed off to say the least, i then had words with the opposition manager and told him exactly what i thought as 1) i was only telling my player to do this due to the misfortune of a bad injury to our player and 2) i thought this was ungentlemanly conduct by him and by the referee to an extent.

Fortunately the opposition did not score from this debacle and the game ended goalless but i was fuming for ages after the event.

Now what exactly should have been the procedure for this ? i thought that if the ball hadn't left the area anyhow the goal kick has to be retaken and secondly not for one moment were we trying to gain an advantage but just take the goal kick from the other side of the area.

I'm still confused and the youung boys even more so.

Cheers in advance for your replies.[/quote]
