Default Laces

I am coaching an U16 side and having problems with their shooting. I am having a hard time to get them to shoot using their "laces". I even got them to stand beside the ball and shoot without the run up but the moment they do with the run up, they revert back to approaching the ball from an angle.
The biggest problem is that they have never been taught how to shoot when they were young and now I need a way to get them to kick the ball correctly.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much. It was very helpful. I am going to try and use this video to get them to kick properly.

Practice front volleys so they are applying the technique, also do long driven passes.
A SSG I made up - The players score on the volley, without a goalkeeper in small goals, and nobody can go within 10 yards of goal on both teams. Players can set themselves up to score from anywhere. It's more to use for vision, spacial awareness, but generally you'll always use the laces for scoring.

That's a good idea. I will get them to practice.
We had a match yesterday and I was so frustrated as everyone wanted to hold the ball and dribble. They only tried to pass when there is no other option. I get them to pass in training but at match situation they all loose the plot.
