Hi All,
I find my players struggle at times when recieving the ball as they panic and lack composure to play the ball on reciept. Can anyone reccomend any particular drills that would improve this? They are Under 10's and i have done alot of passing and recieving with one particular player just swiping at the ball no matter what we try. Any help given would be recieved gratefully! |

I would say "confidence" with the ball is going to be their best thing to get over that panic feeling, unfortunately that just comes with time.
Just keep reassuring them to stay calm while dribbling the ball....

king of the ring, killer whale, bullring etc
setup a circle everyone has a ball, players have to kick out the other players balls...dont make it too competitive until they re old enough to deal with it so tell them to come back in as soon as they get kicked out. killer whale same setup but 1 defender runs about trying to kick out everyones ball. bullring same setup but player that gets kicked out becomes defender until 1 person left. barcelona kids play these games to gain confidence on the ball...fun too! |

I have just joined this site but haven't posted yet mainly because there seems to be a problem with all kinds of stupid advertising posts that have been allowed to get through.
I would suggest to the administrators that you need to get it sorted out because it is ruining your otherwise excellent forum. |

you can try this simple drill that i use,in a circle about centre circle size, number your boys 1 to 12 and get them moving around,1 starts with ball and throws it short to 2,then 3 moves to recieve throw from 2 and so on.once they are at ease with that put the ball on the floor and start again using same principle.no pressure on lads at all they just need to keep on the move and remember what number they are and who they need to move into space to recieve ball from and where they need to turn and pass to.worrying about controlling the ball will or shall we say should fade as all they are thinking about is their next move so to speak.keep passing nice and short to begin with,a progression that we use is to then go through numbers backwards, but one step at a time.
good luck |

If it's a confidence issue then you might try showing them how to 'shield' the ball.
If they become confident in the knowledge that they can stop a player from taking the ball off them then they may start to feel less panicky. |

i feel you should emphasize on their BALL CONTROL....get them to improve that....the better the control....the better will be the receiving and henceforth |
