Do You Coach Girls?

Is it just American girls, or do English girls watch the professional game much?

None of my girls have ever watched a professional game to my knowledge, so I've been on something of a quest to find a great game that would have the teaching points I cover, as well as pace and excitement, and I found it yesterday's Arsenal v Chelsea game. I'm going to run a clinic this summer and I'll have the girls watch the game both at the clinic and as a prerequisite for the clinic.

Does anyone else do anything like this?

Answer to your initial question - not too many that I know. Working in a secondary school I find that the main hobby appears to be make up.....

I don't see kids watching sports seriously as much as they used to, and by seriously I mean watch the whole game. Kids see a lot of sports highlights, the whole ESPN sportscenter effect, and they're more likely to be playing Madden or FIFA on their playstations, but as far as sitting down, watching the beginning to the end, I just don't see it. And in my corner of the woods, around here when the kids hit 14 or 15 (which is when I started watching sports fanatically) they're already starting to think girls, cars, jobs. So, if you've got girls who've never watched a game, that doesn't really surprise me.

Of course, overall, the fact that kids aren't watching as much sport of the TV may only be a good thing. I'm fortunate in that my kids don't have much of an interest in TV.

Hi every one
As part of our team building exercies we regularly arrange trips to women's professional games,the girls love it and gives them something to aspire to. Next trip is the Ladies FA cup final at Notts Forrest ground.

That's a great idea, Paul, and I used to go to professional games as well, but this past year I took my U10 girls to a girls high school game. I sat the girls down with me and spent 10 minutes with a pair helping guide them in their watching. I'ver since spoken with the girls coach and we've decided that we're going to have a girls night, under the lights, and try to get the entire league out for a night in the fall.
