Default Signing my squad on

Well, I had to cut 2 players from last season unfortunately, they gave two years to the team/club and I am grateful to them for that. Their improvement was slow and didn't seem to put in a great deal of extra work outside of my sessions. Now we have moved up to 1st division in a large county with only one league(6 divs of 12), they would get very little chances and hinder the other players development.

I also had to say no to another 3 lads who came down the past 3 weeks.

SO, I've taken 12 on from last season, 2 new ones who left 1st div clubs to try for me, and I still have to make decisions on 4 or 5 more. I only have 3 more spaces left, but at least the hard bit(dropping players) is over.

Just got back in from my 'New season' player meeting.

Last season we finished second bottom in our league. I explained I thought this was poor, because we have players of quality that can achieve much better league position.

I have put together a folder/booklet containing things like player evaluation scores, codes of conduct for football, coaches and players. I have included a review of last season to give the players an opportunity of what they liked and didn't like.

These books will have to be signed by the players and myself, so that we all buy into the same philosophy for next season.

It's an idea I have taken from Clive Woodwards book about winning the rugby world cup with England.

I have not had to cut any players, but there are a couple who have decided to leave.

Overall, I am looking to improve the whole structure of how the squad operates. Wether we climb the league, remains to be seen!

The booklet is a folder containing:-

Codes of conduct for

Football
Players
Coaches

All available fron TheFA.com - Home in the grassroots section.

We are looking at those codes as a team and going to adjust/fine tune them specifically for our needs.

There is a review form, to give the player a chance to say what they enjoyed or disliked about last season.

There is a player evaluation form (from the downloads section of this forum) to mark players out of five in various attributes.

I have also included a general analysis of last season and areas we must improve. I have set targets by increasing and decreasing the amount of goals we need to score and concede (66% increased scored, 33% decrease conceded).

The booklet will be added to and updated during the season as we need.

The general idea is to focus the squad towards a training/coaching syllabus. Something we can all work towards as efficiently as possible, but still making the sessions/matches enjoyable.
