hi jimmy
suggest the first session you do is with the gk and back 3. put 3 attackers aginst them and have two servers 20 yards apart, area is half a pitch with servers on the half way line. initially get the defenders to focus on their start position in relation to the ball. to start, have the servers pass the ball across to each other, you can then coach the gk and back 3 understanding how they compact and move laterally across the pitch. then allo the servers to pass the ball into the forwards feet. you can then coach pressuring the ball and covering. focus on the reaction of the defenders, angle and distanve of cover and good communication. don't forget the gk in all of this, they are vital. once you have gone through different scenarios to players fee, pressure, cover, recovery etc. then focus on the defenders compacting the play as the ball is passed backwards - for example from a forward back to the server. then get the servers to pass the ball in behind the defenders so you can coach recovery runs, one dropping off early - as a sweeper, marking space side etc. Then introuduce the wing backs and how they defend and cover round. also put two wide players against them. then move the servers back, say 70 meters and introduce the 3 midfield players, and againg give them their individual and unit roles. Introduce 3 mf players against them and give the defending team tagets on the 70 yard line to run or pass the ball through. this will encourage greater free play and realism. once you have coached the two units, make it 11 v 11 and bring in the two forwards. again coach them their responsiblity. remember, communication, team shape, working as units, compacting the play forrards and side ways. recovery run. pressure on the ball. midfield and forward appltying pressure from the front after the ball has been passed over or through them. gk role. Good luck Last edited by 74offsuit : 20-11-2006 at 12:19 PM. |

Hi jimmy
In the 11 v 11 game 3-5-2 formation how shall back three defend? generally we know two kinds of attack conducted in defending third by an opponent. one conducted through midle and another by the flank. when they attacked by flank, I think in this situation the back players role would be like this " generally in this situation a midfield player should be 1st defender than nearest man out of from 3 will cover the 1st defender with maintain 1 yard distance and rest of 2 will make good balance covering and marking to their front man and the distance and zone but never been a peralal, should be a diagonaly. if it is not possible that any midfield player wouldn't 1st defender than the nearest man of back 3 will be 1st defender with good petient and delaying attitude than rest of 2 will fully cocentrate in the zone, distance and angle with covering distance. on the other hand if they attacked through the middle zone, I think in this situation the back players role would be like this " in this situation always 1 man out of 3 should be a free player and maitainig distace and angale with other 2. other 2 would be chassing the ball with in their zone, if the ball of zone shifted by attackers than back three will shifted their chassing role but it should be make sure 1 will be free player. remember it chassing players and free player are not fixed. it will be changed by zone of play. all of above two types of defending situation the key point are same, 1. Distance 2. Angle 3. Cover a. team mate b. opponent Thank you Quote:

Cheers Guy's for the replies. Mike do you have any diagrams regarding this. I also have to use 16 players at all times. i can split them into groups for the drill but thats all. i also need to do shaping, front 2 def - mid 5 def and finally the back 3 def.
If you could assist in this i would be grateful. Cheers Jim |

Jim I have a diagram describing exactly what Mike is explaining, i'd like to attach it to this thread but the file is too big, so I'll email it to you if that's Ok? Should I use the Tiscali address? |

If they are pictures, perhaps you could post them in the forum itself? However, my design of 3-5-2 has been based on 6 a side football. Focusing the defensive roles of players as three full backs and two holding midfielders in a "DROP" situation or the 2 holding midfielders behind three attacking midfielders in a "PRESS" situation, depending on whether we are winning or losing the game. |
