Default Help please - 3v3 defending

hi i have my 1st support day this sunday and for my skill topic i have 3v3 defending. wht i am doing is a square area and each team defends a line opposite each other. if the ball is stopped on the line the other team scores. should i change it to a small goal in the corner so that you can do about body positioning to direct away from the goal?

You do not need a goal, you could introduce one as a progression, but I think this changes the focus to an attacking topic.

Key Factors for defending.

Win the ball OR prevent the ball going forward, either is a defending success.

Your three defenders are

Shutdown
Support
Balance

Use your notes for the specifics of each job.

Don't use a goal in one corner as it doesn't affect the roles of the players properly. If your were doing 1v1 it'd work using goals at opp corners, but for 3v3 either stick to one goal, or try 3 goals, so that you are looking at each player either pressing, covering, or providing balance.

The Italian way of explaining the roles is to use the "long" and "short" L.

Long L is when the ball is wide

-------0

--------X

-----------X-----------X-----------X

Short L is when the ball is central.

----------0

----------X

-------X------X

Hope this helps.
