Default Compactness in Defence - Level 2

Hi all,

I would appreciate any help you can give me. I have got the topic of "Compactness in Defence" for my Level 2 assessment. I have a good understanding of the technical aspects of the topic and i am confident of stepping in and coaching when it comes to the small sided game but i'm a little troubled as to work out how to coach this topic as a technique and as a skill?! ?! I have an idea in its early stages of which i'm a bit unsure of.

I would really apprecaite any ideas or pointers from fellow members or if someone has already coached this topic.

Thanks for reading the post and as I said before, i would really appreciate any pointers.

Thanks again,

H

Thumbs up Compactness in Defense - Level 2

Alrite mate,

I ve been given the same topic for my level 2 assessment and im struggling a wee bit with the technical aspect of it. With regards to the skill game I would set up a grid of maybe 15x15 0r 20x20 with 1 goal and a target zone opposite. 4 defenders vs 2 or 3 attackers (depending on ability) I would then work on the defenders staying tight and compact with regards to the player with bal and postioning themselves to stop any passes.

like I say im struggling a wee bit but i ve sent some e mails to a couple of mates so i ll get back to you if i manage to sort a session out,

good luck mate,

any help you can offer me would be much appreciated.

Russ

Hi

I would advise you to plan from the SSG backwards to help know what players you want to finish with, since you must start and finish with the same number of players.

I suggest the technical part of the practise will be quite short in terms of time, but you can build up slowly through the skill elements.

Technique: 5 mins
10 players
Area 20 x 20
10 Bibs laid out on the ground 2 x 5 of each colour

Players move freely around the area and on your command (word) they take up a defensive shape as if the ball was at the nearest bib to them.

KF's
Nearest press (nearest man press ball skill)
Approach quickly
Slow down
Set (stance)
Show one way.

Skill: 10 mins

10 players 5 red/5 green

Use the origional area of 20x20 but put 4 small coned goals diagonally opposite each other (have the cones ready under the others in each corner)

Footballs at each corner goal

Get the players to spread themselves between the 4 corner goals so red play green on a diagonal (make sure when they play red doesn't play red and green doesn't play green)

Play 1v1 diagonally across the square to score/defend the coned goals opposite them. Both sides can play at the same time 2 x 1v1

KF's

As above, but intro tackling techniques.

Progress 2v2 in the same area/same set up

KF's

Who pressures - when/where/how as above
Who covers - when/where/how

Progress 10 mins

Area 40x20 split into 2 halves with 2 goals on the 20 yard lines (can already be set up joined to the other square or separate area)

Play 2 GK's + 2v2 in each half players restricted to own half, score in goals.

KF's

As above

Progress SSG 10 mins

As above, but remove the half way line = 4v4 + 2 GK's

KF's as above.
