I can give you a general idea of that then you can incorporate it in your session plan:
Key factors in defending: 1- Pressure by the nearst player to the ball 2-Cover by the second nearst player 3-Providing balance by the players further away from the ball The whole team should act co-ordinated; as soon as the first player starts colsing down his direct man, the rest of the team should take their relevant positions in relation to the ball and their nearst opponent(Every one should be Goal Side and make sure they see their direct man and the ball). Players near the ball should mainly focus on marking the opponents as you go further away from the ball then they should be thinking about marking dangerous space aswell which means providing balance. P.S: Don't forget the GK's role which is very important in terms of communicating and making his players be aware of dangerous runs and creating space by the opposition. Hope it helps. |

I have to say, I'm intrigued by this Theme.
It's fair to assume that "Defending when organised" is based around having players in position when defending an attack. I can't help but question the validity of this though, when Game Related practices are limited to 4-v-4. Also, how do you set up a Game related practice? Is it deliberately doctored so that the attacking team start their move when the defence are in position? If so, where is the realism? Sorry if I'm missing the point here! |

Hi
The Technique is where you should show how to correctly press and correct technique, (shut down, sit down, stay down etc). This could be done by marking out a pitch with a half way line, so there are two rectangles. In both halfs lay out 3 different and have 4 players in each half. Then tell the players to press a bib of the colour you say. After this pair them up in the rectangle and quickly work on 1 v 1 and then 2 v 2 in the each half. This could then be transfered so that you are coaching 2 attackers in each half with 2 defenders in each half, so it is effectively 4 v 4. Two defenders in red bibs and two attackers in red bibs. The defenders must play the ball to there relevant attackers, this means that when defenders have the ball the attacking players must defend also. So the people that are defending quickly switches and players must quickly adjust there positions. Work the two defenders so that they know the objectives/key factors. Who will pressure out of the two? Who will cover? Is there balance, are they staggered, is there depth? Is there communication? To go into SSG take out the two halfs and have free play 1 v 1 - Approach and technique 2 v 2 - Supporting defender 4 v 4 - Depth Im still a learning coach so help this helps, if not no worries, give me feedback on what you would change. thats open to anyone. cheers |

Well said DB1 i agree with you.
At least let the coaches have ago at what they have learnt on there level 2 course and the last 6 months of coaching. Then other coaches can guide them in the right direction rather than telling them all the answers. |
