Default Fitness/Team bonding

Hi all, I'm currently running a U14's boys team. We're about to step up into a higher age group division, competing against other U14's & U15's. I have an HM Forces background & remember how good the assault course days were for fitness, strength & team spirit. I wondered if any HM Forces/TA Centres could offer us an assault course day? (but adapted for year 9's.)
Any ideas???
Many Thanks
Fingers

Sounds like you'd know better than most for that sort of idea.

What do you want for the lads exactly. Corporate games sound better, you know tug of war, sumo wrestling, table top football,a nd teambuilding games.

Although fitness is something that won't occur from one day's events. Look after their stamina, focus on recovery times and distances, short intense bursts, using the ball.

A great game is nsew with 2 players in middle, each one trying to pass either north-south or east-west. switch after 1 min coz if each player is doing properly they'll be tired.

How do you play that? I like the short-bursts-of-intense passing kind of game, and have never heard of this one.

As for the OP, maybe the schools can give you names/numbers for trainers who do what we call in the states, ropes courses. Those are fun, team bonding kind of experiences. I hadn't heard of 13 year olds doing these courses before, but my son's class did a course like this this year.

Sounds like a good idea.

Yeah, regarding fitness it would just be an add-on. I just think it would be something different than running on the training pitch. It's more of an idea of something fun, challenging and team-building.

I am trying to reach out to some of my old Army friends to see if anything can be adapted for an U14's team. Was just wondering if any of you guys have used/experienced this kind of approach

Cheers,
Fingers

2 teams of equal numbers. Area depends on [player numbers, but best to use say 6v6, with each team having 1 player at opp end of the grid facing each other. The other 4 players in middle must pass the ball from 1 player to other ie north to south, whilst the other team tries to win the ball back, and pass from east to west.

Works well on transitions, creating space, shielding, everything bar shooting basically.

No experience. Try get a load of old equipment, like tyres, hoops, buckets, etc, and think of obstacle courses, stamina circuit, ball control circuit. you might find some ideas at playsport.net
