After losing 4-0 midweek, we had an hour on Thursday to work on pressurising properly - our downfall in that loss.
Turned it around today, winning 3-0 in the cup against another 1st div team. Great performance. |

Interesting performance for my girls. I have one of the two best players in the league (I had her last year and she was on my regulars this summer) and she wants to play defense -- she reads the game well, is more reactive than proactive, and she's not very athletic -- and my challenge for her this year is to play midfield. She played her typical wonderful game and scored our one goal on a cracking shot, which is especially positive because she doesn't have a strong leg. She stymied the other best player in the game when she was in it, but this girl scored two when my player was out and we lost 2-1. I've discovered all pre-season that I have a lot of girls who like goalkeeper, and though everyone will get a chance between the sticks, I've got a couple of fine keepers in the making. Two of my better girls, technically speaking, were sort of lost in the general melee of the game so I've got to get them thinking more aggressively.
One of my girls from the past two years scored a hat-trick including a cracker off a volley to the near post. We'll play her team next week.

Lost 3-2!
To a team I expected us to beat. I had a bit of a moan up at the end, as I was dissappointed that all our hard pre-season work did not pay off. We played the better football, created decent chances, defended strongly in patches. The big factor missing was belief in ourselves. I want my lads to take it to the other team. To believe that we are better. I have bought a book by a sports psychologist Willi Railo, and I intend to design some sessions from the book. It's a whole new challenge to practical work though! A couple of days later now, and I am over my tantrum . I am confident we can pick ourselves up and continue to make progress.I am so envious of your victories ![]() |

I was dissappointed that all our hard pre-season work did not pay off.
I know you were 'ranting'(!) but remember, disappointed has only one 's'. No really, it should be 'all our hard pre-season work has not paid off yet. I didn't have a pre-season of any note, due to holidays, so September is my 'pre-season'. Each game I introduce a couple of new things, and ensure training is progressive and designed towards improving and understanding our style of play. So far it's 2 wins 1 loss, but I won't be judging until October. Perhaps some coaches put too much emphasis on what they have done pre-season, and should continue that good work more through the season. It was only one goal 74, keep it up! |

I have u14 girls I have coached for 5 years this is the last year I have them before they go to highschool....
We just had the placement event where you play 6 half games on the weekend, and that places you in the divisions. After losing 4 of my defenders last year to torn ACLs and broken bones... I played 2d 5m 2f (2-5-3) formation and won all the games, im a little worried that when we play full games this formation will not work... Our first full game is this weekend vs. last years #1 team! |

Girls are much more susceptible to ACL damage than boys, especially at this age: their center of gravity changes much more as they hit adolescence, and to some degree, they have to re-learn how to run. I'm not working much on stretching with my U11s, but as my girls get older, we'll start spending a lot more time stretching and cooling down. Now injuries still happen, but I have unfornately heard increasing numbers of stories like this one. Time to work on the stretching.
