Another really good DVD for the collection is the 'Fit for the beautiful game' from Diamond. Although it is based on warm-up's and fun sessions put together by leading British coach Roger Spry, it is very much based on rhythm and Brazilian warm-up techniques.

I've taken a samba CD down to the park in the summer and had my younger age group trying to warm-up and train to a Brazilian beat and the difference in the tempo of the session has been amazing.

The games are really interesting for the players, and they keep asking me for more of the same - however it isn't the same when the rain is pouring down or the pitches completely frozen! I like to use it for pre-season sessions when it is warmer - especially as there are some good pre-season fitness exercises to follow.

I'm going to do a little camp for my U10 and U12 girls this summer, and I'm looking for a good video of soccer skills that is especially geared towards the youngster, in that it is the kids who would watch. I'd like to be able to give it to each girl a couple of weeks before camp and then suggest that they watch it 3 or 4 times because that's what we're going to work on. I currently have the Soccer Stars video produced by the FA back in the late 80s, and it seems to be adequate (I have one girl reviewing it the next month to see what she thinks), but I'm wondering if there is anything more kid-friendly.

Hello

My name is Robin Russell and as I was surfing the net I came across the mention of the Soccer Star Video which I divised in 1988.

What did your reviewer make of it ?

I would be interested !!!

many thanks

Robin

That would be about the right time. You must have been with the FA then then, I would think. My state director of coaching, Graham Ramsey, as I understand it, has bought the rights for the DVD for either himself or Maryland Youth Soccer Association (not sure which, and it's likely to get messy a bit here the next year as Graham's been fired). He seemed to like it, but I gather there was a bit of unrest though, as people thought he was flogging an old system.
