Default showing the play

Hi all,
many articles i have read suggest ,that with the use of correct body shape and also arcing runs, we can try and make play predictable, by in the most part showing the play inside and into the traffic or in any case showing the play into where you have cover, question is does showing the play inside in the defensive 3rd still apply (where the opposition can get a shot away) or is there some point when we should be showing play outside and away from goal (though this could allow the opposition in behind and to get a cross in) which is considered by most to be the lesser of the two evils,is there a right or wrong way to show the play.
any help appreciated.
many thanks.
