Default How to deal with un-decipline bunch of players

I guess my question is, how to introduce team decipline without turning anybody off at the same time.......

First step is to be disciplined yourself. Start on time, end on time. Do what you say you're going to do. If you tell your players something, carry through with it. Mostly, remember that playing supposed to be fun, and each team has a character of it's own. This team may not be a serious group of kids.

What I don't do is try to make an example of a kid, hoping the rest of the kids get in-line. That could backfire and you could really lose the kids.

If I had to try any form of discipline, I'd just cancel practice early and tell them that if they don't care about the game/your time, well, you have better things to do.

I coach U12's & I too did have some dicipline problems, however, Ive ironed them all out with punishment

I use a number of different punishments & if any of the young men misbehave & are punished, I immediately tell their parent/guardian at the end of the session

My punishments are as follows (& obviously arnt too strict)

5 press-ups
A run across the width of the pitch & back
5 minute sin bin on side of pitch
A run round the whole pitch
Sub for the match if initially a starting player
Banned from training for 1 week (only had to threaten this one)

as for diciplining yourself, I fully agree, just remember to shout "do as I say & not as I do" when you do something wrong
