Default First Week?

For a high school team what would you do for the first week or so? Just conditioning and simple touch drills?

I know on my sons high school team (Fall season) the first two weeks was all conditioning in the morning and in the afternoon practice was drills/SSG's

Then once season started.. mainly drills and some conditioning at the end of practice.

Any prior experience with this team? If so, do you have an idea of the things you want to work on? I'd introduce the concept as well. I have a U11 Travel Girls team and the skill I really want to work on is overlapping play, so in addition to the touch and ball control, we did a lot of overlapping work, and next week the SSGs will all feature overlapping. If you have something else you want to do all season, bring it in early.

So, are you trying to do tryouts with 35 girls in the gym? Man, now that is hard... How big a squad are you going to keep.

If you are doing tryouts, you're going to have to get some games in. Divide the gym into two fields and have 4v4 games, that gets 16 playing at a time. Play for 5 minutes and then rotate in two news 4-somes. That way everyone gets 10 minutes of hard play, and then a break.

You have to convince the girls to play hard the minute they are in. Hard to get a complete picture, but have another pair (or two) of eyes on the girls because it will be hard, that is if your 35 girls in a gym is the tryout process...

You had this same situation last year, IIRC. I'm actually curious to figure out what it is you did last year that worked and what didn't. Maybe as a point of departure for helping you figure out what to do this year...
