Hi
I'm new to these boards so thought I would ask for some feedback on my next planned training session. I have a number of boys (U12) who are good players but who will not pass and move enough for a number of reasons eg parents yelling 'have a go', 'look for x' when x is not available etc. and who don't seem to trust some of the other players enough to pass to them. I want to play 4v4 with goalkeepers. I am going to try and split the pitch into 4 quarters with one player from each side in each quarter. Player can't leave the quarter. Once a goal is scored the attacking side move around clockwise (including goalkeeper). I am hoping this may mean that they have to pass - I may need to adapt a little to ensure that the two players in 'defending' quarters can't shoot. I would also try and use this to encoursge those 'defenders' to offer themselves for a pass from the 'attackers' to create an option. Any comments ? |

First thing to do is to ask the parents to encourage and not coach. Should only be you, the Coach, and maybe your assistant who call instructions from the side lines.
During training play 4v4 games in a suitably sized area and award points for completing a set number of passes, start maybe with 3 consecutive passes then increase it to 5. I'd lose the goalkeepers to start with and focus on the passing then add in the rest as they get better at it. |
