I checked out Sir Trevor Brooking on wikipedia, and I couldn't really get an idea of what he did to be knighted. Sounds like he was a good player, but not a great one. What'd he do to become Sir Trevor? Or has knighthood been devalued?

Devalued? Depends on which side of the monarchy debate, you sit, I suppose.

I don't know what the knighthood is for, I'm assuming services to sport.

He is now spearheading improving grassroots coaching in UK. The FA needs to start realising it's independent amateur clubs that provide the largest pool for players in the UK, not just academies. At least he is trying though.
