There is a saying in soccer "fail to prepare, prepare to fail". To this end a coach needs to be organised and prepared, also to be able to coach the training session properly and evaluate the performance of the players and themselves. There are four progressive key factors to this coaching organisation process each one follows on from the previous, these being:
Planning a coaching session:For players and the coach to enjoy training it is vital that all sessions are planned. They should follow a progressive and logical formula. Gathering information before hand on where the training is taking place, facilities and equipment available, the age, numbers and ability levels of the players. The planning should also take into account any unforeseen circumstances, there should be a plan B available.
Preparing a coaching session:
It is important that the coach organises the area used for the session, marking out grids, ensuring that the correct equipment is available. Prime consideration should also be placed on the Health and Safety check to ensure the safety of the players.
Coaching the training session:
A coach needs to be able to effectively conduct a training session. To this end they must consider a suitable warm up, focus on a particular or main theme which is designed to improve a particular skill or technique - for example passing, movement and support. The session should progress to a game related activity to develop and progress the coaching theme. Finally the coach should facilitate a correct cool down and debrief.
Evaluating the session:
The evaluation process enables a coach to structure future training sessions in a better more logical fashion, based upon the actual requirements of the players and the ability of the coach, rather than what might take the coaches fancy next time out.
