England's first goal:
England's first goal was a really simple affair. A deep right footed direct free kick from Beckham, a straight run from Gerrard, poor marking from the Hungarians and a downward header.
Carragher (4) made an overlap run which attracted the fullback and pulled him out of the space. Owen (10) made an early near post run for a flick header, this attracted a Hungarian defender and pulled him out of a good defending position. A.Cole (3) made a late run and attrracted the attention of the second centre half. This left Gerrard (9) to make a late run, get across the front of the defender and finishing with a powerful downward header. It was also a very good delivery from Beckham, again hitting the area between GK and defenders.
England's second goal:
Again another Beckham free kick, this time a right footed inswinger, hitting the area between goalkeeper and defenders. It was again poor defending by the Hungarians, Terry got across his defender and the goalkeeper should really have come and taken the cross as the ball travelled such a long way and was so close to him.
Sometimes in football the simple things done very well are the most effective. This was very simply a case of a very good delivery, a player who showed good desire, aggression and strength to get to the ball first and poor marking and goalkeeping. England wanted to score more than Hungary wanted to defend.
England's third goal:
After good build up work, the ball was played laid off from Crouch to Joe Cole in an advanced wide position. Crouch immediately made strides to get into the box to make himself available in a dangerous position. Joe Cole #11 used a nice step over technique, to bring the ball inside of the defender. He was helped by Ashley Cole #3 making an overlap run and attracting the attention of the first defender Joe Cole faced. In support was Lampard # 8 square of Joe Cole, Peter Crouch #24 in a central position, Theo Walcott 17, started to make a diagonal run to support Crouch #24 and Beckham #7 who was holding a wide position and offering Joe Cole the option of switching the ball wide.
As the move progress, J.Cole shows good technique to carry the ball across the pitch and avoiding defenders tackles. He carries the ball on his right foot, away from the defenders, making it difficult for defenders to tackle him. He also has his head up so he can see all his options. Lampard # 8 makes a good run in advance of Joe Cole, attracting defenders and giving Joe Cole another forward option. Theo Walcott # 17 continues his very good diagonal run to support Peter Crouch # 24 and give Joe Cole another forward option. Beckham # 7 has kept his discipline and stayed wide, giving his full back problems. Peter Crouch has realised he has space to the outside of him, as the fullback on Beckhams side has got himself caught in no mans land and can't get close enough to Crouch to put pressure on. Joe Cole # 11 shows good patience and vision, waiting for the right moment to pass to Crouch # 24.
Now the space has been created for Peter Crouch to receive the ball on the edge of the area, Joe Cole # 11 make a slightly lucky pass through the defenders legs. Peter Crouch #24 shows great awareness of where the defenders are and where the space is, to turn away from the defender and into the space. From a difficult angle, he strikes a low, accurate shot across the goalkeeper. If the goalkeeper saves the ball, Theo Walcott #17 has followed up into the area where the rebound is likely to come out to.
