One key technique Youth Soccer Players should be coached is the technique of Running with the Ball. When a player runs with the ball, it can cause the opposition many problems. Youth soccer Coaches should encourage their players to understand that if the receiving player quickly advances the ball into more dangerous attacking areas by running with the ball then this technique can create great attacking opportunities. In addition, Youth Soccer Coaches should also try to get their players to realise that by running with the ball a player can break the defending lines of the opposition and effectively take them out of the play by having the ball goal side of them, or by running with the ball attract opposition players to them and thus create space for other players.

For example, Youth Soccer Coaches can create scenarios when Training Youth Soccer Players when a fullback runs with the ball and breaks the line of the opposition defending forwards. Or coach youth soccer mid field players to run with the ball and break the defending line of the opposition midfield and coach a youth forward to run with the ball to break the line of the opposition defence and maybe make an effective, dangerous pass, cross or shoot. 

By Training youth soccer players to understand when and how to run with the ball and look to break these defensive lines of the opposition can result in an opponent from the next defending line being forced to confront the player running with the ball. This then creates an overload situation which can be exploited. For example, if a fullback runs with the ball and breaks the defensive line of the opposition forwards, then an opposition midfield player will have to move out of position to confront the player with the ball. This then creates an overload situation in midfield which can be exploited.

When Training youth soccer players, the coach should also encourage players to run with their heads up, so they are aware of where the opposition are and how they react. When a player runs with the ball and advances down the pitch, at some point an opposition player will be forced to confront the ball carrier, this then creates space for the ball carriers team mates to exploit with clever movement and timed runs.

It sounds obvious, but when Training youth soccer players the technique of running with the ball, the first thing the players should be coached is to understand and be aware of having and creating space in which to actually run the ball into. 

Youth Soccer Players will need Training sessions and games that help them with understanding the techniques of running with the ball and also how they can create space, both as individuals and as a team, in which to be able to better run with the ball. Youth Soccer players will also need Training and help with the decisions they will have to make at the end of the run with the ball.
