20 transfers that shocked English football

With the drama and chaos of the transfer window upon us, this is a great documentary that traces some of the most historic and strange transfers that have involved mainly English clubs in the past.

The documentary starts with the first £1,000,000 transfer of Birmingham’s Trevor Francis to Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest in February 1979. Whilst his transfer wasn’t a fantastic success, mainly due to injuries, he did score the winning goal in the 1979 European Cup Final against Swedish Champions Malmo, which paid off a large chunk of the transfer fee!! Interesting aside, Trevor’s home town is Plymouth and when I played for Plymouth in the late 1970’s I knew and really fancied his sister!

It follows on with Andy Cole’s record £7,000,000 pound transfer in January 1996 from Newcastle United to Manchester United and the transfers of Ricky Villa and Ossie Ardiles transfer to Tottenham

Fascinating viewing for all football fans. Where are they all now?
